“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:5-8
For several years now, I have had a growing interest in midwifery… or should I term it, an intense desire to study the beautiful process of bringing new life into the world! Two and a half years ago, however, Dad asked me to put a hold on my study. He didn’t really articulate his feelings on it all, but he just felt that at that point, I should wait and concentrate on other things. When I chose to submit to his gentle guidance, the Lord gave me grace and true joy in following his leading, and He filled my time with an abundance of other areas to expand my knowledge in.
“…thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.” Isaiah 49:23
Following my high school graduation this year, I broached the subject to Dad again and he gave me his full approval for once more commencing my study, and in these couple months, what a blessed time it has been! This past weekend, the Lord orchestrated timing perfectly around a camping trip we were on, so as to allow Amanda, Jessica, and me to be present at the delivery of a friend of ours. My “first birth” was most certainly a wonderful experience, but as I think about it, I believe the Lord has greatly magnified my joy in this whole study simply because I went through a period of waiting for it.
So if you are going through a particular season of waiting, be encouraged to keep your eyes on Christ. Trust Him. There are blessings in store on the other side, if you are just willing to wait.
“And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you; for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.” Isaiah 30:18
Special thanks to the new parents for allowing us to be present!
Truly beautiful – the baby and especially your hearts tender obedience. What a wonderful opportunity!!
Blessings,

Waiting for God under the direction of parents is fascinating. Among the young ladies that have listed to my counsel to take the path of waiting, I see common results– one is that they were always more like Jesus when the wait was over. Their beauty radiates much like yours in these photos, Kathyrn.
Rejoicing with you!
Praise the Lord my dear Kathryn! I appreciate your example of joyfully submitting to the Lord and your parents. It’s so worth it! So happy that you were able to see your first birth….truly a miracle to behold!
I’m so happy for you, Kitty! I would love to sit and hear all about what you are learning – both in midwifery and character. 🙂 What a special privilege, to attend a birth! And thanks for sharing about waiting. One of the verses you shared has been on my heart a lot lately too. (Is. 49) It’s actually written on my mirror right now. 🙂
That’s an encouraging and God-glorifying testimony. It’s like being a waiter at a restaurant, including both patience and responsiveness in their time.
